In university I studied a wide range of subjects including Philosophy, History, English and Arth History before I chose the areas I would focus on for my degree. Eventually I decided on Ancient Greek and Roman Civilization alongside Politics and I was awarded a degree with honours from University College Dublin. After graduation I was invited to participate in their Masters programme but I declined their kind invitation as I wanted a break from the academic life. While in university I participated in a tutoring programme where we went to a number of schools and helped students to prepare for their examinations. I tutored groups of students in a range of subjects but mainly concentrated on English Literature and History. These years tutoring were very rewarding as the students were from under-privileged schools and were quite appreciative of all the help we gave them. Cycling is a passion of mine and as my skill in riding bicycles developed I was given opportunities to work with a few different bicycle companies. I was given bicycles and components in order to test their design and durability. I was also asked to preform in a number of marketing campaigns and advertisements for these bicycle companies. The learning processes in the physical arena and the academic arena are quite similar, they involve focus, critical thinking, repetition and study. These processes can be sped up to a certain extent if you have someone to guide you through them. I was also given the opportunity to teach bicycle skills to various groups of people and I really enjoyed this experience. I enjoy travelling and have lived for periods of time in Sweden and Spain. I have always loved learning and I continue to read about a wide range of subjects including Philosophy, Linguistics, Psychology and works in the areas I studied during my degree. So with this background I believe I can help tutor students in English as a Second Language, English Literature, History and Classics. Hi, I’m Harrison; I look forward to working with you! I hold a first class degree in English Literature, going on to study for an MA in public policy at the university of York. I achieved top marks at gcse (A*) and achieved a B in English literature and History at A-Level. That’s the academics out of the way, in terms of experience, I have tutored since 2020. I was volunteering with an educational charity called action tutoring, providing English and History tuition to groups of 1-3. These were children mainly on the borderline of a pass, looking to achieve passing and even top grades (including 8/9s)I have a good track record of tangible outcomes and was responsible for their progress throughout, keeping records of tests, progression and revision structure.. Some of these students also had significant challenges at home and at school, and so I developed a strong sense of resilience and motivation for education. A few students were also neurodivergent, and so I gained a appreciation and understanding of neurodivergence in education. Since then, I have kept tutoring throughout my university education and hope to do it as I study for my masters degree. All in all that's about 4 years experience! Hi! My name is Ross and I have recently graduated with a first-class degree in French, Spanish and Italian from Exeter University. I have lived abroad for two years studying in Italy and working in France. Hi I am Albert! I am currently studying for a Master degree in Health Economics at the University of York. I obtained a Bachelor degree in Economics, also from the University of York. My A-Levels were in Mathematics, History and Economics from a college in Leeds. My name is Monica and I have just graduated from St. Andrews with an MA in history and social anthropology. I always loved history and indeed still do. I choose to study anthropology because my English teacher got rather annoyed at my consistent questions about the characters' lives. "Just go study anthropology then" - and that is what I did. I am have graduated with a further masters with distinction in the history of Scotland and am moving onto a PHD this October. I love being able to combine my two passions in one degree. I try to explain it as anthropology giving an understanding of the present and history of the past. The marriage of the two academic subjects is interesting, indeed. For example, for my dissertation in the School of Anthropology looks at the community in Glasgow in 1592; tracking the influence of the Reformation at a local freedom. School exams definitely prepare you well for university expectations! There were some things that stood out for me at school as helping. I think you have to look after yourself as well as sticking to a study plan, definitely schedule breaks as well as something nice every now and again. I also think essay plans are key for the arts and english examinations and that is something I would be keen to help students create. Ultimately you need to understand the content, not merely recite a list of facts, once you do it is far easier to remember and argue your point in an exam.
