I'm a 5th year medical student based in London, with thirteen years of tutoring experience. I've trained students for 11+ entrance exams, scholarship exams to private schools such as Colfe's, Blackheath High and City of London and worked professionally as a GCSE / A-level teacher in schools across England. I'm incredibly passionate about teaching and have been teaching since I was 10! Don't hesitate to book a trial lesson with me and I'd be more than happy to explore your goals and how I can best help you. I attended a state primary school before being accepted at Blackheath Prep School, a local private school with a full bursary and scholarship. I was the first student at the school to be accepted on a bursary. For secondary school, I attended James Allen's Girls' School, also with a full bursary and scholarship. My first degree was in Medical Sciences, specialising in Mathematics, Computers and Medicine, at UCL. My current degree is Medicine and I am in my 5th year at UCL.

Growing up in a part of Ireland rich in natural beauty, I developed a passion for hiking and camping, along with music on the Uillean pipes, Violin and piano. I enjoy language learning: specifically Spanish and Russian. Naturally, my main focus is Physics, which provides a constant challenge with every strange concept introduced I attended St. Michaels College, Enniskillen for my GCSE's, of which I obtained 8 A*s and 1 A, before switching to Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in order to pursue Further Maths. Here I obtained an A*A*A* grade in Maths, Physics, and Further Maths. I’m currently studying a Physics degree at the University of Edinburgh

Why learn with me? I love to deliver lessons tailored to each student that are fun as well as engaging and I encourage students to interact as much as possible. I believe it’s important to make sure students are practicing what they’re taught or revising in their spare time and I am their biggest cheer leader to push them to meet targets! I have plenty of resources for activities, worksheets, homework and especially exam revision! As well as remaining friendly and an approachable person, I also strongly believe in creating and maintaining a professional relationship as a tutor. When I am not tutoring, I like to spend my time with my family, friends and most importantly- my daughter! During my downtime, I enjoy reading, painting and trying out new cooking recipes! I’ve studied a wide range of subjects from a young age! I did my Undergraduate bachelor degree in Law (LLB) and then went on to complete my Postgraduate Masters in Law (LLM) too. After some experience in the legal sector I realised I wanted to go towards a career in teaching as that’s what I’ve always loved the most! That led me to complete my teaching qualification (PGCE) where I additionally specialised in English and worked with primary and secondary school GCSE students. Along with teaching a variety of subjects, I aim to work with students professionally and motivate them to discuss career opportunities and specialisms. Whether it’s teaching Law, Urdu, Primary Education or English- I haven’t looked back since!

Hi! My name is Lucy and I'm 22 years old from the North East. I am currently completing my Masters in Developmental Psychology and have a deep interest in education and teaching. My background in psychology has helped me to gain a deep understanding of how young people learn and how best to explain tricky concepts. In my free time I enjoy reading, pilates and spending time with my dog! I look forward to getting to know you and helping you to reach your full potential :) I am currently a Masters student at Sheffield Hallam University, studying Developmental Psychology. Previous to this, I did my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam and achieved a 2:1 grade. For my A-Levels, I did psychology (grade C), english literature (grade B) and history (grade B), as well as an EPQ (grade B). I have my GCSEs in both maths and english. While I found the rigid exam structure of psychology at A-levels tricky, diving into the discipline at uni has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of how the exam boards trip students up, and how to best help students to excel in rigid exams.

What is the IGCSE?
The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.
It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.
Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.
What is the focus of the IGCSE?
The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:
Subject content
The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
Intellectual enquiry
Flexibility and responsiveness to change
Working and communicating in English
Influencing outcomes
Cultural awareness
What subjects are studied?
IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.
Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).
Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.
Preparing for the IGCSEs
Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.
The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.
Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.
Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.
How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?
A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.
GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.
ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.
If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.
Is private iGCSE tuition affordable?

Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than iGCSE tuition?
As well as private iGCSE tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Spanish, Economics, French. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking iGCSE tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?
The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills. Sign up for a free trial lesson to discover the benefits of tutoring for yourself.
