Hello! My name is Emma, and I am a second-year Accounting and Finance student at Lancaster University. I achieved 9 GCSEs, ranging from 7-9, which allowed me to study Chemistry, Economics and Maths. I also gained an A* in my EPQ, which I completed in year 12, giving me crucial skills that I have carried forward to my degree. I have been tutoring for 8 months. During this time, I have helped prepare primary school students for their SATS and gained more confidence with maths in the classroom. I also prepared year 11 and 13 students for their GCSE and A levels by covering content they were unsure of and practising exam techniques. I previously gained experience mentoring GCSE students at my school. I am a student with dyslexia, so I understand the challenges students face in classroom settings. Anyone can be successful, which is why my sessions are student-led, so that they are catered towards each individual's learning style. If you are unsure of this throughout my school career, I have learnt different methods that work for me and would love to pass them on to others so that we can find a technique that works for you. I attended Rugby School, where I completed my GCSEs and A levels, and now I have gone on to study for a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University, where my ambition is to become an ACA Chartered Accountant. Having studied Chemistry, Economics and Maths at A level, I offer tutoring for students up to and including year 11 in Maths and Chemistry and then Economics up to and including year 13 students.

I was also a reading ‘Super-tutor’ in my school’s reading programme, designed to help Year 7 students boost their confidence and skill in reading, meaning I would step in to cover for any tutors who were absent when they planned to meet with their assigned tutee, and I oversaw the running of the programme as a whole. I really enjoy seeing students develop and become more confident in their own abilities as tutoring progresses, and would love the opportunity to work with you and help you to achieve success in your studies! I attended a high school in the North East for my GCSEs, achieving Grade 9s in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business, Design and Technology, French, and Geography, and Grade 8s in English Language and English Literature. I help students turn ‘I can’t do it’ into ‘I actually enjoy this!’ — by building confidence through patience, positivity, and creative teaching. I specialise in Maths and 11+ preparation, supporting students of all abilities to feel calm, capable, and motivated. My background as a learning support assistant taught me how to break complex ideas into clear, manageable steps — especially for learners who struggle with confidence or anxiety around maths. I use interactive methods, games, and real-life examples to keep lessons fun and memorable. Above all, I believe progress starts with encouragement, and I aim to create lessons where students feel supported, proud of their effort, and inspired to keep improving. I studied Psychology at university, where I developed a strong understanding of how students learn and how confidence impacts performance. My studies helped me recognise that progress isn’t just about intelligence — it’s about mindset and approach. Before that, I achieved three A-Levels and gained hands-on experience working in schools as a learning support assistant, supporting students across maths, English, and general study skills. I’m now planning to continue my studies in Marketing and Business Management, combining my interest in psychology and communication with a passion for helping others grow and reach their potential. This mix of academic study and practical classroom experience has shaped my calm, supportive teaching style, helping me identify learning gaps quickly and adapt lessons to each student’s needs.

Hi! I’m Emilia, a Maths and Physics tutor with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students gain confidence in STEM subjects. I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A-level, and recently completed my BSc in Mathematics and Physics. I’m now continuing my studies at the University of Cambridge, where I’m pursuing a Master’s (MPhil) in Data Intensive Science. I’ve been tutoring for the past two years, working with students of all ages and abilities, from primary school through to A-level. Most of my experience is at GCSE level, where I particularly enjoy helping students prepare for exams, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build genuine understanding rather than just memorising formulas. Outside of tutoring, I love combining my interests in science, coding, and education, as well as exploring creative projects that make complex ideas easier to visualise and learn. I’m currently studying for an MPhil in Data Intensive Science at the University of Cambridge, where I’m developing advanced skills in computational methods, statistics, and physics-based data analysis. Before this, I completed a BSc in Mathematics and Physics, which gave me a strong foundation in mathematical modelling, mechanics, and problem-solving. At school, I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at A-level, subjects that sparked my long-term interest in science and set me on the path I’m on today.

Hi, I’m Darius, a 20-year-old student entering my third year of studying Physics at the University of Oxford. I achieved eleven grade 9s at GCSE and five A* grades at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and my EPQ. I have a strong passion for learning and enjoy helping others develop the same. I offer tutoring in Physics, Maths and Further Maths from KS1 through to KS5. My Teaching Approach In an age where tools like ChatGPT are widely used, students can sometimes struggle with misinformation and a lack of structured repetition. This is where guided support from someone with a strong academic background can make a real difference. My sessions are carefully tailored to your individual learning style and goals. I start by gaining a clear understanding of your strengths and areas that need improvement through discussion and assessment exercises. From there, I design a structured plan that focuses on reinforcing core concepts, addressing weaker topics, and building the problem-solving skills necessary for exam success. My approach goes beyond simply working through questions—I aim to develop a deep conceptual understanding so that students can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. I incorporate proven strategies for efficient revision, exam technique, and time management, sharing the tips and tricks that helped me excel in these subjects. Visual explanations, step-by-step reasoning, or lots of practice questions, I’ll adapt my teaching style to suit your needs and keep sessions engaging and productive. Outside of Academics In my free time, I enjoy playing piano and have achieved Grade 8. I also like staying active by representing my college in football and challenging my younger brother to tennis matches (sometimes letting him win). I’m also a keen pool player and enjoy both the social side and the competitive edge it brings. Outside of that, I’m working on improving my chess skills, I’m a passionate Arsenal fan and I love watching a good film. I am a third year Physics student at the University of Oxford.

Key Stage 2 tutoring

What is Key Stage 2?

Key Stage 2 (KS2) is the term used to refer to the second stage of a child’s primary education and covers Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Children are typically aged between 7 and 11 years old in KS2.

What subjects are covered at Key Stage 2?

Children are taught the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Art and Design
  • Computing
  • Design and Technology
  • Humanities
  • History
  • Languages
  • Music
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

Schools must also provide Religious Education, although parents can ask that their children are taken out of part or all the lessons.

The focus of Key Stage 2

Maths and English are the focus of Key Stage 2 as they are considered gateways to future learning. In English, children progress from reading with a focus on comprehension to grasping overall concepts through age-appropriate literature. They learn how to craft well-punctuated and structured sentences and express their ideas clearly. In Maths, children should be able to perform calculations with increasingly large and complex numbers, including long division and multiplication. They will also use measuring instruments like rulers and make connections between measurements and numbers. That’s not to say the other subjects aren’t important for a well-rounded education. For example, science covers the basics of biology, physics and chemistry, and an understanding of the world is introduced in history and geography. Computing is considered essential in today’s world.

Tests and assessment

Children take exams known as SATs (Standardised Assessment Tests) at the end of KS2 in the following subjects:

  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • English reading (reading and understanding text)
  • Mathematics (arithmetic and reasoning)

The SATS results are used to assess progress in English and maths and measure school performance.

How to choose a KS2 tutor

Key Stage 2 is a crucial stage in your child’s education as it builds a foundation in core skills and prepares them for the more demanding requirements of secondary education. If your child is struggling in one or more subjects or lacks overall motivation and confidence, it’s important to address these issues before they start falling behind in their learning. The SATs are culmination of work over the whole of KS2 and not just Year 6, so your child will benefit from tutoring at any stage. It’s important to choose an experienced KS2 tutor who can offer lessons adapted to your child’s specific needs and who will provide you with regular feedback on their progress. At GoStudent, our tutors offer adaptive learning, where lessons, readings and practice activities are personalised towards the individual child and based on their current skills and performance. They also offer interactive and engaging lessons that will keep your child’s interest – and could spark a love for learning that will last through their academic career and beyond.
