New tutor

English Durham University student | Tutor for GCSE and A-level English Literature and GCSE English Language EXAM BOARDS -AQA, IGCSE, EDUQAS FREE CONSULTATION In the free 30 minute consultation I will ask for a recent piece of work and provide: - Discussion on the student's strongpoints and areas for improvement - Essay feedback - Suggested focus for future improvement - Suggested material/skills as focus points - Discussion with the pupil on what they feel they would want/need to focus on APPROACH My approach to tutoring is to identify and subsequently focus on the pupil's areas for improvement as well as to foster confidence and engagement by recognising their progress and areas of strength. I accomplish this through regular testing such as through exam questions and short quizzes. After each lesson, I send a progress report of the pupil. LESSON DETAILS - I offer remote/online lessons only - 1 hour lesson slots - £15 per hour Please contact me if you are interested in my tutoring services. At Sixth Form, I attained AAAB in English Literature, Psychology, Business Studies and Religious Studies A-Levels. Through balancing four A-Levels along with my revision, I have become more adept at organisation and multi-tasking. I also achieved an A* in my EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) in which I concluded that 'real women' lack representation in textual philology owing to the dominance of male writers thus the voicelessness of Ancient Greek women is mirrored in their lack of power over their presentation in Greek myth. This project has allowed me to specialise my analysis of the presentation of women in literature through going back to its origins, this is especially useful as gender is a very common and pervasive theme in literature from GCSEs to A-Levels. Now, I am undergraduate at Durham University where I study English Literature where I am able to read and analyse captivating texts. Over the past year, I have spent some of my free time helping students improve so that they may get to whatever next step that may be for them. Due to my degree having low contact hours, I am quite flexible in when I can schedule tutoring hours.

New tutor

Hello, my name is Upender. I teach Mathematics, economics and physics, and I have been passionate about education for several years now. Over the course of my teaching career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of students, each bringing their own strengths and challenges to the classroom. This experience has helped me grow not only as a teacher but as a lifelong learner. What I love most about teaching is the chance to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives. Seeing a student grasp a concept they once struggled with or watching their confidence grow over time is incredibly rewarding. Teaching is more than just delivering lessons—it's about inspiring, encouraging, and guiding the next generation to reach their full potential. Thank you. For my GCSEs and A-levels I attended Nower hill high school, which is a state school rated outstanding by ofsted. I am now attending University of Birmingham, completing a degree in Economics. I achieved a grade 7 in GCSE maths and a Grade A in A level maths. I also Achieved a B in Physics A level and an A in Economics A level.

Hello! My name is Emma, and I am a second-year Accounting and Finance student at Lancaster University. I achieved 9 GCSEs, ranging from 7-9, which allowed me to study Chemistry, Economics and Maths. I also gained an A* in my EPQ, which I completed in year 12, giving me crucial skills that I have carried forward to my degree. I have been tutoring for over a year. During this time, I have helped prepare primary school students for their SATS and gained more confidence with maths in the classroom. I also prepared year 11 and 13 students for their GCSE and A levels by covering content they were unsure of and practising exam techniques. I previously gained experience mentoring GCSE students at my school. I am a student with dyslexia, so I understand the challenges students face in classroom settings. Anyone can be successful, which is why my sessions are student-led, so that they are catered towards each individual's learning style. If you are unsure of this throughout my school career, I have learnt different methods that work for me and would love to pass them on to others so that we can find a technique that works for you. I attended Rugby School, where I completed my GCSEs and A levels, and now I have gone on to study for a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University, where my ambition is to become an ACA Chartered Accountant. Having studied Chemistry, Economics and Maths at A level, I offer tutoring for students up to and including year 11 in Maths and Chemistry and then Economics up to and including year 13 students.

I’m currently studying Health Sciences at the University of Worcester, progressing onto a Physiotherapy degree, which has strengthened my understanding of how people learn, communicate, and develop confidence. I completed my GCSEs and A-levels at a grammar school, where I built strong academic foundations and effective study habits that I now help students develop themselves. Alongside my studies, I’ve played rugby, which has developed my teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills — qualities I bring into my tutoring style. I also have ADHD and dyslexia, which has given me a strong understanding that every student learns differently, allowing me to adapt my teaching approach to suit individual learning styles and support students who may lack confidence or feel overwhelmed. I also have a strong interest in music production, which has helped me develop creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills. I aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence in their abilities. I attended Gravesend Grammar School after successfully passing the 11+ entrance examination, where I studied from Year 7 through to Year 11 before continuing into the Sixth Form. At GCSE level, I completed Higher Mathematics, English Language and English Literature, Geography, Physical Education, Business Studies, French, and Higher Combined Science. I achieved Grade 7s and strong passes across my core subjects, including the sciences, English, Geography, and Physical Education, with Grade 5s in my remaining subjects. I then completed A-levels in Biology, Psychology, and Physical Education, developing a strong understanding of human science, behaviour, and performance. Following my A-levels, I applied to the University of Worcester, where I am currently in my first year studying Health Sciences and progressing onto a Physiotherapy degree pathway.

Tutoring at Key Stage 3 level

What is Key Stage 3?

Key Stage 3 (KS3) covers the three years of school known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, when students are between 11 and 14 years of age.

It follows the national curriculum and prepares children for more advanced learning at KS4/GCSE level.

What subjects are covered in Key Stage 3?

The compulsory subjects at Key Stage 3 are:

  • English (Literature, Language)
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Art and Design
  • Computing
  • Design and Technology
  • Geography
  • History
  • Modern foreign languages
  • Music
  • Citizenship
  • Physical Education (PE)

Additional subjects include Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), which includes sex education. Parents can request that their children opt out of sex education lessons and either parts of RE or all the lessons.

The focus of Key Stage 3

KS3 forms a bridge between primary school and GCSE study. It deepens knowledge and understanding in the different subjects and focuses on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The curriculum is designed to be broad so that students can explore their interests and abilities in a wide range of subjects. This is essential when it comes to deciding which subjects to pursue at GCSE level – a crucial decision which influences future academic and career paths.

How is KS3 assessed?

Learning is assessed in two ways: how well students are learning and remembering the curriculum and whether they are understanding what they have learned.

There are no national or external assessments at Key Stage 3. Instead, teachers carry out ongoing assessments for each pupil in each of the year groups.

How to choose a KS3 tutor

Whether your child is struggling with making the transition from primary to secondary school or having difficulties with one or more subjects in any of the years, a KS3 tutor can help them close any gaps in their understanding while helping to build confidence and motivation.

Tutoring can also help students needing an extra boost before entering the Key Stage 4 GCSE years.

It’s essential the tutor is a subject specialist and experienced in adaptive learning, which prioritises personalised learning tailored to the individual’s needs and understanding. This approach allows students to work at their own pace and truly master any problem areas before moving on.

GoStudent has a range of qualified and experienced tutors in all subjects covered in the KS3 curriculum. They can suggest effective study techniques and deepen understanding while helping create a study plan that will keep learning on track.

With the help of a tutor, your child can reach their full potential and develop love of learning that will carry them through the rest of their school years and beyond.
