My name is Rob and live in Menai Bridge. I studied a degree in Physics and Maths at Newcastle Upon Tyne University. After working in industry as a geophysicist, i went to Southampton University to study a masters degree in oceanography. Then a PhD specializing in the observations and modelling of internal waves, graduating in 2001. After a number of post-doc positions involving satellite remote sensing of the oceans, my career took a different direction. Firstly, i worked for a small startup company in Edinburgh, that developed novel techniques for electromagnetic sampling at sea, with the aim to infer the presence of hydrocarbons below the seabed. After a few years, the company got bought out by a Norwegian exploration company (PGS) and i transferred to working on seismic exploration ships. I have used my physics and mathematics background extensively during my career. I now wish to pass on my understanding to help students to discover the joy of doing physics. My other passion is playing guitar and mandola in a gigging band, that we started up over the last 2 years of lockdown. We have now put together 24 original songs, enough for 2 recorded albums. We are aiming to produce at 4 track EP demo, to be recorded at a local music studio. I also enjoy walking in our local mountains and along coasts.

Hi, my name's Emillie! I graduated from University College London with a First-Class BSc in Applied Medical Sciences, and I am currently a first-year medical student at Queen Mary University of London. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in science, supported by my A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and French. This combination has strengthened both my scientific understanding and my ability to communicate clearly and effectively. As a tutor, I aim to create a supportive and organised learning environment where students feel confident engaging with new material and asking questions. I understand that each learner has a unique approach to studying, so I tailor my teaching style to match individual goals, strengths, and preferred methods of learning. Whether students want to build core knowledge, prepare for important exams, or deepen their understanding of challenging topics, I focus on providing structured explanations, step-by-step guidance, and practical study strategies that help them progress steadily. My time studying at university has reinforced the importance of critical thinking, academic resilience, and a positive mindset—skills that I incorporate into my tutoring sessions. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into manageable ideas and supporting students as they develop confidence and independence in their studies. Learning should be collaborative and encouraging. My goal is for every student to leave each lesson feeling more capable, motivated, and assured in their understanding. I look forward to helping learners at all stages achieve their goals and increase their confidence. I began my academic journey at a grammar school where I completed both my GCSEs and A-levels. Studying in this environment helped me develop strong study habits early on, as well as a genuine interest for learning. For A-levels, I chose Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and French. These subjects allowed me to explore my interests in science while also strengthening my analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and communication abilities. This combination provided a solid foundation for pursuing further studies in the biological and medical sciences. I went on to study Applied Medical Sciences at University College London, where I gained a deeper understanding of human biology, disease mechanisms, and the research that drives medical progress. The course offered a balance of scientific knowledge and practical skills, and I particularly enjoyed developing my ability to interpret scientific literature, conduct laboratory work, and communicate complex concepts clearly. I graduated from UCL with a First-Class degree, an achievement that reflects my commitment to academic excellence and my passion for this field. I have now begun my first year of medical school at Queen Mary University of London. Studying medicine has been an exciting next step, allowing me to apply my scientific background to real clinical contexts while continuing to expand my knowledge. My academic pathway, from grammar school, through UCL, to medical school, has equipped me with strong subject expertise, disciplined study skills, and a deep motivation to continue learning and supporting others in their educational journeys.

What are the SATs?
The SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’) are exams conducted in state primary schools in Year 6, when students are 11 years old. They are designed to assess knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum in both English and mathematics.
The SATs measure how much progress a child has made at primary school and their readiness for secondary school. They are also a way to measure schools, ensuring they have met educational standards.
Your child will receive a scaled score between 80 and 120 for each test completed. A score of 100 (or more) means they have met (or exceeded) the expected standard. While your child cannot fail their SATs, they can underachieve by not reaching the expected standard.
**What subjects are covered in the SATs? **
The English SAT tests reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation and spelling. The maths exam assesses mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills in areas such as arithmetic, geometry and algebra.
Pupils no longer sit a science SAT. Instead, their understanding is assessed by teachers against the national standards.
Why are the SATs important?
The SATs show the progress your child has made throughout their primary education. It is essential that they have a core understanding of all the topics covered as they are the foundation for learning throughout their school career.
They are also an introduction to formal exams, which can be helpful when it comes future exams such as GCSEs.
Almost all secondary schools group children into sets or streams based on their academic ability, and SATs results may be used as part of the decision-making process, as well as for making future grade predictions.
Preparing your child for the SATs
Some children find the prospect of the SATs stressful and worry that they will let their parents and teachers down if they don’t perform well. Preparation is vital if they are to approach the exams with confidence and perform to the best of their abilities.
A SATs tutor can offer one-on-one support that is personalised to your child’s needs as well as provide a structured study plan with a focus on any learning gaps.
At GoStudent, we will match your child to an experienced SATs tutor with an excellent understanding of the material that they are teaching and a proven track record of success.
The SATs tutor can provide guidance on the exam format, supply revision materials and practice tests, and provide detailed feedback on progress. They can also work with your child on their time management skills by asking them to sit a practice test under timed conditions.
They will work with your child to create positive learning experiences that will have effects far beyond their SATs exams and set them up for a smooth transition to secondary school.
Is private SATs tuition affordable?
Your child can get SATs tuition for as low as £21.99 per session. The price of each private tuition session depends on how regularly and for how long your child takes tuition with us. Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than SATs tuition?
As well as private SATs tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Italian, Latin, Spanish. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking SATs tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
What are the benefits of private SATs tutoring for your child?
