I will always tailor sessions to the individual needs of each student so they can build both a solid understanding and confidence in the subjects we work on. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading and engaging in all things creative, such as playing the guitar, sketching, and journaling. I also love going for hikes in my local area with friends and family. Here’s a warm, natural **~250-word “about me”** that feels personal but still professional and tutor-appropriate: --- Hi, I’m Rebecca! I’m a Sociology tutor with a strong passion for humanities subjects, particularly sociology, English, and academic writing. I’m currently studying Politics and International Relations at university, which has strengthened my understanding of social theory, critical thinking, and structured essay writing. My academic background allows me to support students not only with content knowledge but also with developing strong analytical and evaluation skills. My interest in sociology comes from wanting to understand how society works and why social issues affect different groups in different ways. I enjoy helping students make connections between theory and real-world examples, as this often makes the subject more engaging and easier to understand. My tutoring experience includes supporting my younger sister and my neighbours’ children with primary school work, 11+ preparation, and GCSE subjects. Through this, I’ve developed a patient, calm, and encouraging teaching style. I understand that many students struggle with confidence, particularly in essay-based subjects, so I focus on breaking topics down into manageable steps and creating a supportive learning environment. In my lessons, I use clear explanations, discussion, exam-style questions, and structured writing practice to help students build both understanding and exam technique. My aim is to help students feel more confident, capable, and motivated while making steady academic progress. Archie H.

New tutor

Hi, I’m Archie Hall, an energetic and passionate English and Science teacher. I enjoy helping students learn in ways that are simple, clear, and fun. I believe that learning should not feel boring or stressful. Instead, it should be exciting and meaningful. My goal is to help students build confidence while they improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the world around them. In my English classes, I help students explore literature, grammar, and language through creative activities. I use group discussions, role-playing, storytelling, and multimedia projects to make lessons more interesting. I encourage students to share their ideas and opinions, because I believe every student has something valuable to say. I guide them step by step so they can improve their communication skills and enjoy learning at the same time. I also teach Science. In my Science classes, I explain lessons in a simple and easy-to-understand way. I use real-life examples and hands-on activities to help students understand different concepts. I want my students to be curious, ask questions, and discover answers on their own. I believe that Science helps students think clearly and solve problems, which are important skills for their future. I work hard to create a positive and supportive classroom environment. I make sure every student feels respected, encouraged, and motivated to do their best. In my free time, I enjoy watching anime, which inspires my creativity and imagination. I also sing a song every morning to start my day with positive energy. This daily habit helps me stay motivated and ready to give my best to my students. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Finance. My studies helped me develop strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills. I also gained knowledge in communication and management, which are very helpful in teaching. I have been teaching for one and a half years now, handling both English and Science subjects. During this time, I have learned how to plan effective lessons, manage a classroom confidently, and adjust my teaching style to meet different learning needs. My education and teaching experience have prepared me to guide, support, and inspire my students every day.

New tutor

Hello! My name is Shruti and I have always been fascinated by technology and how it shapes the world we live in. I have a strong passion for mathematics and science. I enjoy the challenges of solving complex problems and finding different solutions, which strengthen analytical thinking as well as problem-solving skills. I believe this is very important because it helps us to understand problems better and enables us to break them down into smaller, more manageable parts, which is also very crucial to learn. This also allows us to evaluate options logically instead of just guessing. Alongside this, I love listening to music. Listening to different genres helps me to relax and stay motivated; it also enhances my focus, concentration and memory. For me, music also works by blocking out distractions and creating a very steady rhythm for the brain to follow, which further increases my level of concentration. I also enjoy learning different languages because I believe this helps with connecting to different people from diverse backgrounds. Cognitively, learning a new language strengthens memory, problem-solving skills, as well as concentration. Altogether, these skills helped me to build confidence and independence. Therefore, I became better at explaining new ideas clearly and in an easily understandable way. I also became better at learning new things and finding solutions quickly to different problems. This is extremely essential in fields like engineering and tutoring! Throughout my academic years, I have attended Queen Mary's High School, and after that, I attended Queen Mary's Grammar School for sixth form. Currently, I am a first year Computer Engineering Student at the University of Birmingham.During my school years and university so far, I have completed assignments, projects which have helped me to develop my analytical thinking skills and experience explaining difficult concepts easily. Furthermore, I have also done mentoring before in school, where I was teaching maths to a GCSE student, and this also enabled my skills to improve and gave me more experience of teaching.

How tutoring at Key Stage 1 can benefit your child

What is Key Stage 1?

Key Stage 1 (KS1) is the name given to Year 1 and Year 2 at primary schools, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7. It sets out which subjects must be taught as part of the national curriculum, which is followed by state schools.

Your child may be tested on what they have learned at the end of KS1. These assessments are known as SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’). They are not pass/fail tests but simply provide an indication of your child’s progress. It is not compulsory for schools to take the SATs in KS1.

What are the main subjects studied at Key Stage 1?

The KS1 curriculum is designed to introduce children to the core subjects they will learn throughout their school career.

The subjects are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Design and technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Art and design
  • Music
  • Physical education (PE)
  • Computing

Religious Education (RE) is also taught, but parents can choose for their children to opt out of some or all the lessons. Schools usually also teach Personal, Social and Health Dducation (PSHE), citizenship and modern foreign languages.

How is Key Stage 1 assessed?

Children undertake a phonics screening check at the end of Year 1, which evaluates their reading and pronunciation skills.

Schools who do not take the SATs will use their own assessment systems to track the progress children in their school are making.

If your school takes the SATs, the subjects are:

  • English reading (comprehension)
  • English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Mathematics (basic arithmetic)

The focus of Key Stage 1

KS1 is where a child begins to develop their skills and understanding in the key subjects taught in the curriculum.

Speaking, reading and writing are considered core skills as mastery of the English language is central to developing an understanding in all subjects.

In KS1 maths, children to begin to understand mathematical language, understand the fundamentals and begin to solve problems by applying this knowledge.

In addition, teaching children about healthy habits and different belief systems can help them become well-rounded individuals who understand the world around them.

How to choose a Key Stage 1 tutor

Children are all different and progress at different rates. Some will need extra support in building core skills or improving confidence, and others may need more of a challenge to keep them engaged. Either way, lessons need to be personalised to meet their individual needs.

It’s also important to choose a tutor with experience in the KS1 curriculum and who understands how important it is to make learning fun.

GoStudent’s tutors are highly qualified and offer an interactive and personalised learning experience. Our online sessions can be scheduled for a time that suits you, and you will receive regular updates on your child’s progress.

Tutoring will give your child a strong foundation in the key concepts will set them up to succeed in learning, not only at KS2 but throughout their school career.
