Hi, I'm Alice! I'm currently a university student, so I know first-hand how tricky it can be when you're struggling to grasp a topic. But I also know that with the right support, you can get there and I'd love to help you on that journey! I have two years of tutoring experience, working with a wide range of age groups and abilities. I’ve also supported SEND pupils and am always ready to adapt my teaching style to suit individual needs. I studied Economics with law at the University of Liverpool for my undergraduate degree and I am about to finish my master's degree in medical statistics at LSHTM. I like hiking, bouldering watching theatre productions(my favourite musical is Wicked). I also like finding new places to eat. -I am no longer accepting any new student as I have resigned from this role.

I also love to read, especially horror books, or play on my Nintendo switch. My favourite part of maths is pure, such as Algebra and trigonometry, but I love all maths! Hi! My name's Rebecca, and I am a soon-to-be PhD Student, specialising in computational chemistry. I have just finished an integrated master's in Natural Sciences at Cambridge, meaning I've studied Physics and Chemistry at a university level. I have experience supporting university admissions, where I volunteered on open days, school visits, and summer schools throughout my undergraduate studies. A big part of this was small group teaching of year 12s, where we started at A-level content and developed to first-year undergraduate topics. I have also worked as a mentor on Cambridge's STEM SMART programme for Year 12 students. This widening participation program focused on pastoral support for students from low-income backgrounds looking to apply to top universities in the STEM subjects. I am a tutor because I love teaching just as much as I love science, but also because the current A-level system doesn't show you how valuable the knowledge you learn is to the field. I am hoping that together, we'll not only get the grade you want but that I'll also help you appreciate how important the things you learn are in the world of science! My tutoring style focuses on visual learning and understanding the basics rather than relying on memorisation. I focus on helping you grasp the core principles and building up from there. When you truly understand the fundamentals, you can confidently approach any question because you know how it all fits together. Understanding is only one part of the process; practice makes perfect. We'll also focus on exam technique, specifically what the examiners from your exam board want from you and how best to approach the exam. In my spare time, I love to cook, paint and sew! I took two additional maths qualifications during my GCSEs and regularly competed in UKMT challenges. At A-level, I studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics, which is where I realised my real passion lay in the physical sciences. I went on to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge, a broad and rigorous course that allowed me to explore a wide range of scientific subjects before specialising. I took Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Applied Maths in my first year. In second year, I continued with Chemistry and also studied the History and Philosophy of Science (a bit of a wildcard choice, but one I found genuinely fascinating). I eventually specialised in Chemistry, focusing mainly on theoretical and quantum chemistry, a field that merges the logical structure of physics with the molecular insight of chemistry. I graduated with a 2.1 in my undergraduate degree and decided to stay on for a fourth year to complete my integrated Master’s. My final-year research was in computational chemistry, where I simulated how proteins behave under different conditions. This work sat at the interface of chemistry, physics, and biology, allowing me to apply concepts from across the sciences. It was fully computer-based (a massive plus - I’ve never been a fan of lab work!) and I was proud to finish the year with a First. I loved the experience so much that I wasn’t quite ready to leave academia. I’m now about to begin a PhD at King’s College London, researching novel bio-based materials (ideally with minimal time spent in the lab)! My undergraduate journey wasn’t without challenges. Cambridge is tough, and I was diagnosed with dyslexia after receiving unexpectedly low marks in my first-year exams. My performance steadily improved as I learned how to work with my learning style. I’ve always been a visual and hands-on learner, which likely explains why Chemistry felt so natural to me. My academic ups and downs have deeply influenced how I approach tutoring - I understand what it’s like to struggle despite working hard, and empathy helps me support my students more effectively. I believe that learning should be about building accurate understanding, not just memorising facts, and I strive to make that a reality in every session I teach.
