New Report Shows Europe’s Education System is Struggling to Keep Up With the AI Era

London, 14th May 2025 - A new landmark study released today by GoStudent, one of the world’s leading online tutoring platforms, reveals that Europe’s education system is failing to keep pace with the demands of a fast changing, AI powered world–and the people within it are sounding the alarm.

The GoStudent Future of Education Report 2025, based on insights from 5,859 parents and their children (aged 10-16) and 300 teachers, across six European countries, paints a stark picture of an outdated system. The majority of students now say school is not preparing them for the future, while traditional exams are being rejected by families across the continent.

Key findings:
  • More than half of students (52%) say school isn’t preparing them for the future–up sharply from just 36% one year ago.

  • Student confidence in navigating a tech-driven world has dropped to a three-year low of 61%, down from 77% in 2024 and 64% in 2023. This demonstrates there’s an increasing concern that students do not feel adequately equipped to navigate the challenges of a digital, AI powered future.

  • 62% of parents believe traditional exams are dead, and demand new, relevant forms of assessment due to 16% of students admitting to using AI to write essays, and 21% admitting to using AI to help pass exams.

  • 74% of teachers back simulation-based assessments that mirror real-world problem-solving as the way to assess students moving forward.

  • 63% of students say that they want their teachers to know more about AI, showing that it’s not just children who are unequipped for an AI-focused world.

  • Only 25% of teachers are receiving AI training, despite the growing expectations from both students and parents.

  • Fee-paying schools are more likely to offer AI tools, highlighting a growing divide in access to digital learning in Europe’s education system.

Cybersecurity, AI, and stress management are some of the top skills and subjects parents, students and teachers want added to the curriculum now that tech and AI is at the forefront of our society.

GoStudent CEO and Co-Founder Felix Ohswald said: “Until recently, education has scarcely changed for centuries. But in just a few years, global events have propelled it into a new era. The pandemic fast-tracked digital learning, and the rise of AI has given children access to powerful new tools that support and inspire them. As an advocate for technology-enabled education, I’m excited by the progress we’ve made and the possibilities ahead.

“We’ve heard from thousands of children, parents and teachers across Europe, and they’re calling out for change. Young people want to learn about AI, VR, sustainability and finances - and they’re frustrated that these future-facing topics aren’t part of their everyday
